Biddeford’s revival has rewarded practical experimentation. AI deserves the same standard
By DR. GLEB TSIPURSKY | Special to the Gazette
Biddeford’s downtown economy runs on small teams, local relationships, and businesses that cannot afford hidden rework. That makes workplace artificial intelligence a management issue, not simply a technology choice.
This weekend’s River Jam put local vendors, food businesses, and community organizations in front of customers, while the Biddeford+Saco Chamber continues its August calendar with business mixers and workforce events. At the same time, the University of Maine System is running its AI-Powered Workplace program for nontechnical professionals focused on productivity, automation, and decision-making.

Local firms should pair that training with a 30-day rework check.
Choose one recurring task, such as customer emails, estimates, bookings, marketing, scheduling, or supplier communication. Record the first automated output, human checking or correction time, and any downstream repair. Compare the complete workflow with the old process before expanding it.
A faster first draft means little if employees spend the saved time fixing mistakes or restoring local context. Keep a named person responsible whenever automated work affects prices, refunds, contracts, staffing, safety, financial commitments, or public claims.
Biddeford’s revival has rewarded practical experimentation. AI deserves the same standard: test it, measure the rework, and scale only what helps.
